Google Stadia: price, launch date and games unveiled

Google Stadia, a service that some have dubbed the Netflix video game, will be launched in November and will offer a hybrid model offering games retail and monthly subscription.

Players will be able to access Stadia for $11.99 (US) per month. This subscription, called Stadia Pro, will allow unlimited play to 31 games from the launch, including Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Doom Eternal and The Division 2.

Other games available at launch include Baldur’s Gate III, Borderlands 3, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint and Destiny 2. Some of them may not be included in the subscription to Stadia Pro.

Stadia Pro will provide a gaming experience in 4K resolution at 60fps in HDR and 5.1 surround sound. Smaller resolutions will also be proposed to accommodate slower Internet connections.

A starter package including a gamepad, a Chromecast Ultra device, the Destiny 2 game and a three month subscription to Stadia Pro will be available for $169. The additional levers will be sold for US $69 (the Canadian price has not been specified).

Google has said it will be enough to have a Stadia controller and a device that can run the browser to play Chrome. On a TV, it will be necessary to use a Chromecast device. On the phone, only Google pixels will initially give access to Stadia, but other devices will be added later.

Google specifies that a connection of 10 MB per second of downstream speed will be necessary to play and that it will be necessary to have access to 35 MB per second of downflow to have access to the resolution 4K at 60 images per second.

At 10 MB per second, it will be possible to play at a resolution of 720p at 60 frames per second.
